SERVICES

In-Line Inspection (ILI) pipeline engineering helps clients comply with regulations to provide complete records on pipeline location and integrity. The EN team is committed to design the best approach for each unique ILI project, including the smart tool (pig) launcher and receiver, as well as any required new or retrofitted pipeline facilities that are needed to allow the tool to move through and collect data with minimal impact to pipeline operation. Our engineers are highly capable to analyze this data to detect any pipeline integrity issues, such as dense corrosion pitting, dents, or reduced wall thickness.

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is an effective process to install pipelines, often long lengths, utilizing trenchless technology and with minimal impact to the feature being crossed. These features are typically sensitive in nature and cannot be disturbed by conventional open trench construction methods including roads, railroads, waterbodies (rivers, streams, wetlands), or other environmentally or culturally significant areas.

EN Engineering has completed the design of hundreds of HDD crossings, and we consider ourselves an industry leader in identification, planning, design, and support during installation of HDDs. Whether part of a larger overall pipeline installation or a stand-alone maintenance/replacement project, EN completes a preliminary front end assessment of all HDD crossings. We have developed a process that helps ensure the success of HDD crossings and minimizes stress on the pipeline.

EN manages geotechnical support services utilizing subcontracted third parties. These services include:

  • Subsurface Geotechnical Investigations and Reporting – investigations (primarily soil bores) are needed to assist in the design and construction of the pipeline and related facilities. These investigations assist in determining the character of subsurface materials, including the presence and depth of rock. The information gathered will aid in the design of any horizontal directionally drilled (HDD) and other crossing method, assist the pipeline contractor in determining the type of equipment needed for directional drilling, boring and general ditching and excavating activities, and assist in the design of pipeline and facility supports and foundations.
  • Hydrofracture Analysis – a hydrofracture analysis and related inadvertent return risk evaluation assists in establishing the maximum allowable drilling fluid pressure to be used during HDD operations in order to minimize the probability of hydrofracture or inadvertent fluid returns.
  • Geohazard Analysis – this study identifies potential hazards that could affect pipeline construction and facilities. Examples of these hazards include subsurface soil conditions, potential for landslides, and Karst features. These analyses provide clients with a better overall understanding of the terrain, geology, geotechnical conditions, and geological hazards discovered in their proposed pipeline corridor which could have an effect on the design, construction, and ongoing operation of the facilities.

EN’s experienced engineers manage environmental permitting coordination as a third-party service. Environmental permitting coordination may include any/all of the following: waters and wetland delineation, threatened and endangered species habitat assessment, regulated waters permitting, cultural resources survey, a history or architecture investigation, and stormwater pollution protection plans (or erosion control plans). Permitting/filings may be with any of the following: Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and state and local agencies.

EN’s expert engineers manage land acquisition and right-of-way (ROW) support as a third-party service. This service includes review of GIS parcel information, development of a property owner list, deed and title research, property exhibits (non-certified), land valuation, survey notifications/permissions, land acquisition (or ROW procurement), review encroachments of 3rd party assets (ex. foreign pipelines, water mains, etc.), ROW support during and after construction, condemnation (or eminent domain, if required), legal descriptions of easement and workspace, and recording plats with the county.

Our EN teams also handle non-environmental permitting with township, county, state, and federal agencies (as applicable) in areas such as traffic control plans, pipeline road crossings, temporary or permanent access roads, railroad crossings, and interstate highways.

EN Engineering offers design and consulting services to support the operation of underground natural gas storage. We prepare gas well and wellhead designs and write remediation and workover procedures. SERVICES

Transmission Integrity Management

EN’s Integrity engineers and staff are experts in Transmission Integrity Management Programs (TIMP) and have extensive experience with federal regulations. We offer clients a range of services to perform assessments, identify risks, and, if any risks are identified, recommend preventive and mitigative measures. This is done in accordance with Part 192 Subpart O regulations and the Mega Rule. Our services also include managing HCA and non-HCA assessments, individual procedures that are required for implementation (such as ECDA, ICDA, ILI, and HCA/MCA determination), and risk analysis.

Process Safety Management

The EN safety management systems team of professionals is well rounded, and many of them have worked on the owner’s side, giving them a unique perspective and ability to understand client concerns. These expert consultants can help develop and implement an entire program or evaluate and improve existing PSM programs for safe operations and compliance with PSM standards. Operations and Maintenance

Procedure and Manual Development

EN experts are often asked to perform gap analysis/audit, update/modify, or write manuals and procedures for: Integrity Management Programs (i.e. TIMP, DIMP, SIMP, FIMP and LQ-IMP); pipeline safety programs, including Damage Prevention Programs (DPP), Public Awareness Programs (PAP), Emergency Response Plans (ERP), and Operator Qualification (OQ); and other major types such as design and construction manuals, welding manuals, corrosion manuals, and control room management (CRM) plans. Facility Integrity Management

EN’s consulting specialists support the development of Facility Integrity Management Programs (FIMP). ASV and RCV Studies and Analysis

EN Consulting staff provides support for operators when evaluating the need for automatic shutoff valves (ASV) and/or remote-controlled valves (RCV). Our services include performing risk-based analysis of the system to determine how the implementation of safety devices can ensure adequate response time in an emergency situation. Risk criteria takes into account HCA, MCA, and class location analysis data, while stakeholder feedback is utilized to evaluate individual response times compared to benefits of using safety devices.

In-Line Inspection

The EN consulting and data solutions teams are committed to helping clients perform assessments to determine the integrity of their pipeline. In-line inspection (ILI) is one of our premier services to assess the integrity of transmission pipelines, storage fields, natural gas storage fields, downhole natural gas storage fields, and wells. This analysis also includes understanding threats and risks, performing data review and analysis, integrating information into GIS, and providing detailed recommendations.

Direct Assessment (ECDA, ICDA, SCCDA)

Direct assessment services, including external corrosion direct assessment (ECDA), internal corrosion direct assessment (ICDA), and stress corrosion cracking direct assessment (SCCDA) are performed by EN’s team of highly qualified engineers and code compliance experts. The four-phase assessments support regulatory compliance, advance safety, and reduction of future costs. Services we provide include threat and risk assessments, field surveys, data integration, direct examination support, anomaly investigation, and design of repair/replacement work.

Threat and Risk Analysis

Threat and risk analysis experts at EN assist clients by looking at their pipeline system holistically, determining which pipeline threats apply to their systems, and then providing a risk ranking on the threats to their system. This process determines which assessment methods will be required to evaluate the integrity of those threats and risk. The resulting data is incorporated back into the risk rankings, which is typically performed more than once a year for our clients.

Continual Evaluation

EN’s highly trained staff has extensive experience developing and implementing Continual Evaluation processes used to evaluate results and make process improvements. The process is cyclical in nature and begins with an initial assessment. EN can help operators analyze if the processes in place are effective and define an interval appropriate between assessments as they schedule and plan work. This helps operators practice the cycle of routine monitoring and evaluation, followed by continuous improvement within a specified timeframe that meets regulatory requirements. Our team also aids operators in cost saving considerations by developing a holistic plan based on results.

Records Validation

EN’s team is experts in record validation, a comprehensive service that goes beyond what code requires when retrieving data to perform calculations for Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP). We expand on the data collection to encompass what is required by code, as well as other available data (sometimes 50 or more additional attributes) during that process that is extremely useful and would be cost-prohibitive to go back later and collect. This additional information is then integrated into clients’ GIS system and is extremely useful later when planning any work on the pipeline, such as corrosion.

MAOP Reconfirmation

EN Engineering provides support for the six methods operators may utilize for pipeline(s) subject to MAOP Reconfirmation. These essential services include:

  • Performing a pressure test, and if the records are not traceable, verifiable, and complete (TVC), cut-outs will be required at the test manifold for material verification,
  • Pressure reduction,
  • Pressure reduction for segments with small PIR,
  • Replacement, with CP system updates and post-construction surveys,
  • Engineering critical assessment (ECA), a detailed process per §192.632,
  • Or, alternative technology.

Our subject matter experts provide all necessary information so operators can determine the method best suited to their situation. They also look for efficiencies that can be obtained by combining projects or evaluation schedules, particularly when looking at the overall capital program.

HCA, MCA and Class Location Analysis

When it comes to class location analysis and determination of high consequence areas (HCA) and moderate consequence areas (MCA), EN Engineering has a specialized team ready to help. They have assisted countless operators in determining the population density surrounding their potential impact circle (PIC) and whether they meet criteria for HCA or MCA. This determination plays a vital role in pipeline design, operations and maintenance, and integrity management requirements.

Program Gap Analysis and Audit

Our EN team utilizes federal and state requirements to perform a gap analysis for organizations and pipeline systems, including transmission integrity management, distribution integrity management, pipeline safety management systems, public awareness programs, and damage prevention. Our experts also have extensive industry knowledge and operations experience to provide high-level recommendations for operators to implement to continuously improve their pipeline safety programs. Jurisdictional Audit Support

EN provides jurisdictional audit support for operators, including Intrastate (State) and Interstate (PHMSA). Our staff is well prepared to provide support for TIMP, DIMP, or SIMP, as well as the less common audit topics. Included in this service is a review of procedures and processes to ensure they meet code requirements; we field documentation reviews as necessary or assist in preparing responses to audit questions and/or protocols. Depending on the client’s request, preparation may include bulleted talking points, presentation development to use during the audit, and/or conducting a mock audit. In addition to preparation, we can be present or provide on-call support during the audit, if requested. Each client has a different comfort level, and we are prepared to meet them.

Strategic Improvement Plans

Strategic improvement plans are a valuable tool and service EN provides to help operators take a more global view of their system. Pipeline Safety Management Systems (PSMS)

EN Engineering’s Safety Management Systems (SMS) team are fully qualified to help evaluate, develop and implement a comprehensive pipeline safety management system (PSMS) and/or build upon existing pipeline safety programs.  The SMS team consists of individuals with extensive knowledge and experience in Process Safety Management (PSM) and PSMS to aid in the development and implementation of non-mandatory American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practice 1173 “Pipeline Safety Management System.” SMS services include elements such as gap assessments, PSMS roadmap, PSMS framework development, element implementation, PSMS effectiveness, process hazard analysis (PHA), management of change (MOC), incident investigations, and process safety information (PSI) development.

Process Hazard Analysis (PHA)

Our consultants have the knowledge and expertise to facilitate and lead your process hazard analysis (PHA) in your efforts to enhance the safety of your operation. We have highly trained facilitators and leaders with backgrounds in various industries which require PHAs to be performed. Services that EN offers in connection with PHAs include evaluating various systems and processes, setting of software to define the scenarios, identifying potential consequences from those scenarios, and identifying causes that create those scenarios. The final step in the PHA process is to generate a report for our clients that outlines our findings and offers recommendations.

Process Safety Information (PSI)

As a part of a process safety management program, process safety information is a service EN offers to our clients to develop the process safety information itself in order to be in compliance with regulations. Our team of experts will do the work necessary to bring your data records information into compliance, whether it is upgrading for an existing pipeline or developing it for a new pipeline. This could include many different items, such as electrical classification, creating process flow diagrams, developing the information for safety systems, maximum intended inventory levels, or process chemistry tables.

Management of Change

To ensure that health, safety, and environmental risks are evaluated and under control before changes are made, a management of change program must be in place for those required to follow process safety management rules. At EN, our expert teams have the experience you need to do this. We gather the data necessary to develop clients’ governance documents outlining the protocols and processes for conducting a MOC. We can also supply staff to support the MOC requests, documentation during turnaround events, or other support requests.

Mechanical Integrity Programs

EN’s expert consultants have extensive experience developing comprehensive solutions for mechanical integrity programs to ensure reliability, safety, and compliance with regulations. Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA)

When making risk management decisions, our clients often choose to partner with EN Engineering for a Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). Similar to PHA, we provide a facilitator to conduct a risk analysis. This service includes identifying the highest risk causes and scenarios and putting them through the quantitative method layer of protection analysis to determine the number of independent protection layers required to mitigate or prevent each identified catastrophic consequence. Our facilitators are trained and certified to lead an organization and their team through those processes, to reduce the overall risk of a catastrophic incident.

SERVICES

Document Digitization

Most companies have large volumes of paper documents that contain information required for critical operational processes. Paper documents have limited access and introduce inefficiency and errors into the organization’s work processes. EN’s data solutions experts provide our clients with digitization services. We support digitization and integration of historic and current paper documents into a client’s data system. First, we conduct a detailed inventory of the available records and estimate the cost of digitizing these documents and the impact on our clients’ operations. When the cost of digitizing the documents is justified by the value gained, we develop a plan to digitize the relevant documents. Depending upon the requirements, digitizing the documents can be done by scanning them into a digital format, tagging them with relevant information, and linking them to the appropriate assets. If the requirements demand a higher level of integration, the source documents can be manually reentered as digital data. Both processes allow our clients to query, search, run reports, or otherwise use the data to better support their operations.

Data Cleansing and Verification

Reliable and accurate data is the foundation of an effective data system. Our expert consultants have years of experience working within data systems to cleanse them of errors, duplication, or other discrepancies. When engaging in these initiatives, we identify and quantify the errors and evaluate the potential cause and the severity of the error. After locating the gaps in quality, we evaluate the costs and impact of various correction techniques from low cost/low accuracy automated algorithms to high cost/high accuracy manual fixes. The desired accuracy and cost of the corrections drive the development of an overall data enhancement plan prioritizing data cleansing with respect to the severity of the data. EN then supports the execution of the data enhancement programs by managing activities, performing corrections, and reviewing the enhanced data.

Data Maintenance

One of the key requirements to obtaining high value from modern decision support and analytics applications is high quality data. While starting with high quality data is one factor in this value chain, maintaining data quality through a system is equally important. If the processes involved in making changes introduce errors or allow data to become stale, high quality data quickly deteriorates. Imagery Analysis and Information Extraction

Readily available imagery, such as aerial photographs, often contain valuable data that can help our clients make critical decisions to improve the efficiency and safety of their business. Our expert data solutions team uses image recognition algorithms to extract meaningful information from imagery for object identification and classification. Object identification is done by extracting data, such as building polygons or paved and unpaved areas, from aerial imagery. While image/object classification is accomplished by training machine learning algorithms to recognize qualities such as pavement or vegetation from available imagery. These services evaluate the information available, determine if it is useful, and turn aerial imagery into a comprehensive data set that our clients can use to improve efficiency, increase safety, and meet regulatory requirements.

Business District Identification

EN has developed a library of analysis modules to help operators analyze their business districts in a data-driven and repeatable manner. EN works closely with operators to tailor the analysis modules to their individual needs and service territories so our clients can apply the results to their leak survey requirements, risk assessment cycles, and system planning. We work closely with stakeholders throughout our client’s business to ensure that any available information data sources, both internally and publicly curated, are leveraged for a thorough and repeatable analysis. We apply our deep regulatory understanding and our technical data systems team to deploy processes to spatially analyze business districts. The analysis process accommodates both federal regulatory requirements (CFR 192.723 and §192.723–Subpart M GPTC) as well as state requirements.

HCA, MCA & Class Location Identification

EN has developed geospatial analysis tools to identify Class Location, High Consequence Areas (HCA), and Moderate Consequence Areas (MCA) using spatial data according to 49 CFR Part 192. EN analyzes and maintains our clients’ HCA, MCA, and class location designations on a periodic basis. Additionally, EN can implement the analysis module within the operator’s GIS system allowing the module to be run on an as-needed basis, while maintaining a historic record of the previous analyses as conditions change.

Custom Spatial Analysis

EN partners with our utility clients by leveraging the expertise of the entire team to define and solve a business problem for our clients using custom spatial analysis. First, we review the business problem with our client and clearly define the problem we are working to solve. Then we identify the information available to solve the business problem and establish an analysis workflow that will deliver high quality information that will be used to solve the business problem. We test and refine the workflow until the quality outcome criteria are met. This service delivers quality information to our utility clients that enable them to make informed decisions to solve real business problems.

ILI Data Analysis

At EN, we provide services to help utilities manage their ILI programs. EN uses GIS and other data sources to evaluate the impact of population changes, economic trends, and cultural evolution on energy systems for our clients. Custom Analysis Tools

EN works closely with our clients to identify a set of business problems, evaluate the information that’s available to help solve that business problem, build a repeatable process or tool to address the problem, test and verify the tool, and then deploy the solution. Risk Assessment

EN supports our clients in understanding and mitigating the risks posed to their system by a variety of threats. We work closely with operators to identify threats, establish mechanisms for quantifying the likelihood of the threat creating an adverse event, and then measuring the potential impact of that threat to the system and surroundings. We support operators throughout all aspects of their risk management program, from identifying and managing data sources to calculating the potential risk and mitigating the potential impact. Additionally, we can implement a data driven spatial risk model supporting the analysis of threat categories covered by 49 CFR 192. Our engineers can also extend the analysis by quantifying categories that are outside of federal code to include those additional threats that are of concern to our clients.

Assessment Data Management

EN experts take a holistic approach to assessment data management, helping clients manage their pipeline assessments from start to finish while integrating the resulting data with their GIS. EN provides services to help capture, integrate, and manage assessment data within a spatial framework for many assessment types including external corrosion, internal corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and in-line inspections among others. EN aligns and analyzes the assessment data to provide severity classification along our client’s pipelines, enabling them to leverage the data over the life cycle of the related assets. EN can also deliver visualization services in a variety of options from interactive spatial dashboards to aerial maps.

Data Improvement Program Management

EN helps our clients plan long-term activities around data improvement initiatives that involve high volumes of data throughout the organization. EN begins this process by identifying existing data gaps that need to be resolved in order to improve business processes. We then evaluate the criticality of that data gap and various options for resolving the data gap. Data may be enhanced by correcting errors, supplementing incomplete data, or implementing new integrations to keep time sensitive data up to date. This process could include source record review or field data collection such as digging up the pipe to identify the pipe’s material. Once this is complete, our team of experts help prioritize the initiatives or activities within a data improvement program so clients can get the most value based upon the amount of effort required or resources available within a given time period. The duration of the program could be five, ten, or fifteen years to achieve various objectives of improving data quality and might be done in conjunction with other projects or services for efficiency.

EN also builds tracking and reporting mechanisms that measure the program’s success so clients can adjust and tailor their efforts to the ongoing program’s effectiveness. By monitoring the program, our clients are able to ensure that data enhancement programs continue to deliver value.

Cathodic Protection Design

As corrosion specialists, EN engineers can be relied on for cathodic protection design. We are committed to providing designs that will protect your valuable assets, achieve or exceed their design life, reduce interference with third-party assets, and meet all federal and state regulations. We can also help with test station configurations and design, electrical isolation, and station facilities. We have extensive experience with multiple industries including oil, gas, water, wastewater, and electrical utilities. All designs are performed in accordance with NACE, AWWA, and other guidelines as appropriate.

AC Interference and Stray Current Analysis

With an ever-more crowded world, AC interference situations are increasing in number and intensity. From new construction to existing assets, EN can accurately analyze the situation at hand. Our team of experts are careful to examine all possible threats and risks before recommending a course of action. We are one of the few firms to perform in-house modeling, with specially trained staff to match any scenario.

DC Interference and Stray Current Analysis

DC interference and stray current can result in vexing situations for the operator. Oversight & Commissioning

The most critical stage of any asset’s life is construction. EN provides third-party inspection or oversight services to ensure that construction crews are installing the system as designed. We’re also there to provide sound engineering solutions to any situation that may arise. After construction, our team provides commissioning services to ensure proper installation and performance of the corrosion prevention systems. Other services include post-construction coating surveys, native surveys, rectifier tuning, isolation testing, and baseline reads.

Troubleshooting

When a client has problems with their cathodic protection system, and they’ve sought solutions that has not yielded answers, EN can help. We provide experienced staff with a high degree of technical capabilities to help troubleshoot the situation. With our expertise, we can diagnose the situation at hand and provide custom-tailored remedies. This may require specific field equipment, specialized surveys, coordination with third parties, or the use of software modeling.

Internal Corrosion

By its nature, internal corrosion is not always the easiest situation to monitor or address. EN helps operators perform routine assessments or address unforeseen situations. Our cross-functional teams from Integrity and Metallurgy assist our Corrosion group in providing the best solutions and recommendations for any issue. Be it coupon testing, liquid sampling, in-line inspections, or even depth of cover surveys, we are here to help.

Wellhead Piping Analysis

EN’s corrosion experts can help storage fields assess the cathodic protection of their wells or gathering system with field surveys such as ElogI, Cathodic Protection Profile (CPP), interference, or isolation testing. These can be done as stand-alone surveys or performed with other down hole surveys and activities in support of Storage Integrity Management Plans (SIMP). Whether for a single well or the entire field, EN’s expert team helps owners and operators ensure the asset’s integrity and maintain its working life.

Renewable Energy

For renewable energy, specifically solar and wind (both onshore and offshore), we perform assessments to ensure structures will meet their design life. This assessment considers the environmental conditions, structural design, and local soil conditions. In some instances, coatings and cathodic protection systems may be designed to achieve the desired operational life. We also provide interference studies from these fields onto third party assets, studies on the reverse (third party assets onto the field), and studies on third-party crossings. For permit level activities, we can assist by performing lifecycle calculations and corrosion rate analysis.

Surveys and Inspections

EN has a qualified and experienced team to perform the field surveys you made need. These include ACVG, DCVG, CIS, ACCA, depth of cover, direct assessments, interference surveys, HDD coating evaluations, native and interrupted surveys, soil resistivity, or even custom troubleshooting. We can assist in code compliance readings including annual surveys, rectifier readings, critical bond assessments, post-construction coating assessments, and atmospheric inspections. Corrosion specialists are also part of a multi-disciplinary team at EN that performs an external corrosion direct assessment (ECDA) and internal corrosion direct assessment (ICDA): an entire program including a pre-assessment, coating and/or corrosion indirect surveys, direct assessment, data analyses and presentations, and reporting.

Failure Analysis

Pipeline components fail due to unanticipated loading conditions or reduction of material strength from mechanical damage, corrosion, or other environmental factors. Determining the root cause of failure requires understanding of the material properties, microstructure, manufacturing processes, operating conditions and original function of the component. EN Engineering failure analysts are degreed metallurgical and mechanical engineers with decades of pipeline industry experience in determining the cause of failures.  Through metallurgical investigations using optical and scanning electron microscopy, and stress analysis using finite element analysis, EN can determine the cause and suggest corrective actions to guard against similar failures in the future.

Welding Procedure Development and Qualification

EN Engineering provides welding procedure development and qualification to support pipeline installation, maintenance, and repair. Our metallurgical team has assisted pipeline companies in developing new construction and in-service Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), Procedure Qualification Reports (PQRs), and welder qualifications. Our services include field qualification and classroom training for WPSs, welder qualification and inspection to ensure safe welds in compliance with regulatory requirements and practices.

Fitness-for-Service/Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA)

A fitness-for-service evaluation determines the capability of an engineering component to continue functioning with a known defect – metal loss, corrosion, crack-like flaws, laminations, etc. When crack-like defects are involved and fracture mechanics methods are employed, the fitness-for-service evaluation is commonly called an engineering critical assessment (ECA). In the petrochemical, refinery and pipeline industries, the standard API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 Fitness-for-Service is widely used and addresses repair or replace decisions for many commonly occurring defect types. EN Engineering has performed many API 579 fitness-for-service evaluations and ECAs on pipelines and pressure vessels with corrosion, mechanical damage, and cracks. These evaluations provided repair/replace decisions and inspection scheduling intervals for components determined suitable for continued operation. 

Material Selection & Verification

Procurement of pipeline and facility components to meet design requirements depends upon accurate descriptions in bills-of-material and, upon receipt, verification of proper material to meet the order. Recently enacted federal pipeline regulations require that all components have traceable, verifiable, and complete (TVC) records to be maintained for the life of the pipeline. EN’s material specialists regularly review the material test reports (MTRs) of purchased engineered components to ensure conformance to industrial standard (ASTM, ASME, API) norms. Integration through EN data management systems can ensure secure and readily accessible material documentation for efficient operation of industrial facilities.

Pipe Mill Audits and Qualifications

At EN, our metallurgy group often supports clients to audit pipe mills before adding them as an approved supplier. Within this service, our audit process includes visiting the pipe mill to witness rolling pipe, checking instrumentation, ensuring qualifications are up-to-date, and observing quality processes. We typically either perform this work prior to the client working with a particular pipe mill or when they’ve already purchased pipe for a specific project. In addition to the audit process, our team can also support clients in oversight during the first days of production to ensure the process runs smoothly.

EN’s metallurgical group serve on ASME and API standards committees to participate in the development of pipeline component standards. We have a thorough understanding of industry and regulatory standards and their applications in pipeline design, construction, and operation. Our expert staff is experienced in providing support for pipeline modernization and standardization initiatives. New federal mandates and safety rules may lead our clients to develop a modernization program focusing on replacements and upgrades of aging pipelines and associated facilities. Standardization is a process by which an operator makes use of best practices and technology updates to create guidelines or designs to be utilized throughout a region. This activity often requires revising company specifications and standard drawings. EN partners with our clients to facilitate this process. Our subject matter experts lead the way in updating specifications, often meeting with or interviewing client stakeholders to prepare the documents. Similarly, standardized drawings are created or updated based on feedback from material sourcing, construction, and operations. EN is regularly able to implement company standards during project execution and then follow-up with recommendations to update or improve those standards.

EN Engineering’s expert consulting group offers procurement and materials expediting services to our clients for their project materials. This suite of procurement services is performed at the clients’ discretion and may include requesting quotes for a variety of materials from approved manufacturers in accordance with their engineering standards. Additional services include commercial bid analysis, in conjunction with the technical analysis, making recommendations to the client, and creating a requisition. Materials expediting services include regular communication with suppliers and clients regarding schedule, coordinating reviewed drawings with suppliers, and, when requested, entering into agreements with subcontractors for services such as site survey and geotechnical investigations.

EN has extensive experience in completing the activities necessary to obtain the required civil (non-environmental) permits for pipeline projects. These permits are primarily related to road (interstates, state, county, municipal) crossings, railroad crossings, and the installation of temporary and permanent access roads and driveways. EN can research the permitting authority, determine the permitting requirements, and prepare the necessary drawings and permit application package for submittal to the jurisdictional authority.

EN has experience with all crossing methods, including HDD, jack-and-bore, slick bore, pipe ramming, and open-cut. The EN team is well versed in American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way (AREMA) guidelines, as well as individual railroad requirements and standards. Our team has developed relationships with a number of these entities, which helps aid in the approval process for future projects.

With this service, we can capture highly detailed, three-dimensional scans of complex environments and geometries in a rapid and cost-effective matter.
