The project scope consisted of an upgrade from an existing SIMATIC PLC based compressor station control system to Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC, including revisions to the Wonderware HMI. Also, the existing ESD, Fire & Gas System was upgraded to use new Allen-Bradley PLC-based control panels and software. The entire station automation system was redesigned and upgraded to accommodate the replacement of four reciprocating compressor units with a single 15,000 HP motor-driven, variable speed centrifugal compressor. The automation design includes very complex station control algorithms to manage the operating differences between the existing reciprocating, turbine-driven centrifugal, and new motor-driven centrifugal compressors. Simultaneous station suction and station discharge pressure set point controls were implemented with overrides for line break, ESD/Fire, high station discharge pressure, high station discharge temperature, high station differential pressure, and unit power limitation. The station is designed with east, west, and operator-designated flow modes to maximize the operating flexibility of the pipeline. ENE performed the project management, design, drawings, fabricated the ESD, Fire & Gas System Control Panels, and performed all software development, testing and commissioning.5
